REV. A.D. WILSON.
DIED
July 21, 1876.
Aged 90 Yrs."
(Remainder of inscription too small to read from photo.)
The Rev. Abraham Deremer Wilson was the beloved founder and Dominie of the Fairview Dutch Reformed Church, the first Reformed Church west of the Alleghenies.

Henry Martin Baldwin Wilson, son of pioneer pastor Abraham Deremer and Julia A. Wilson, wrote the book History of Fairview Reformed Church, 1837 - 1912, a thorough, delightful, and genealogically-rich account of the early days of the Fairview Church and of the people who loved and were enriched by it. The book is still available through the yet-flourishing church. We plan to post excerpts from this book, as well as from the original Fairview Church records, on these pages in the near future.
Rev. Wilson was so highly esteemed by his loyal parishioners that they often named their children after him, and also after his wife Julia. One such namesake, Abraham Wilson Hageman, son of church elder William Brown Hageman and his first wife Althea Quick Stryker, was born Feb 5, 1841 in Fairview and baptized soon thereafter by Rev. Wilson in the church. "Abe" Hageman grew up to serve in the 103rd Illinois Infantry, Co. D in the Civil War until he was wounded on Missionary Ridge, and to become a prominent citizen of Seward, Nebraska.
